Telowie Beach Coast Protection Reserve is in Crown ownership and is adjacent to a small township, Port Germein. It is a vast coastal wetland with a variety of mangrove/samphire habitats, dunes and swales.
Substantial erosion has occurred over the years, predominantly from unregulated use of off road vehicles, camping and through the mining of shell grit. To reduce this impact, volunteers will install barrier fencing and signage. Interpretive signage, with information on the significance of the Reserve is currently being developed. Volunteers have also conducted surveys on rabbit activity, weed infestations and collected several tons of rubbish. Revegetation, seed collection and propagation will also be undertaken.
